United Nations Biodiversity Conference – COP14
17-29 November 2019 | Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt
The 14th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP14) to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (UNCBD) is being held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, in November this year. This meeting, which brings together thousands of policymakers, civil society advocates, scientists, indigenous groups and businesses once every two years, has the goal of implementing the 1992 Convention on Biological Diversity and its protocols (the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety and the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and Benefit-sharing).
This year’s conference will call on decision makers from all nations to step up their efforts to halt biodiversity loss and protect the ecosystems that support food and water security and health; there will also be an opportunity for both governmental and non-governmental groups to make pledges and commitments in support of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020.
Of course, Sharm is known for its own biodiversity - so as well as attending COP14, our delegates will have a chance to explore Sharm’s natural environment. They’ll also attend the Business and Biodiversity Conference held alongside COP14.
